Spent the day with Pete Berry, ex Foundation Course Tutor (Birmingham). Pete has an exhibition at The Gallery, The Atkins Building, in Hinckley called "Idea as Object". His work incorporates re-cycled waste, mainly metals which are arranged and displayed against white, flat virtual surfaces. The use of spot lights creates additional layers - of shadows on the walls. A great show Pete, thank you for a superb day and I love your studio.

Spent an afternoon in Cambridge, working on a design for a CD cover for Robert Costin, of organ music from Pembroke College.

There is a site specific exhibition by Robin Mason in the Thomas a Becket Church of Fairfield, in Romney Marsh, Kent, which forms part of Art in Romney Marsh 2010. Set in fields, crisscrossed by ditches and guarded by sheep, this church is an extraordinary setting, for a remarkable set of paintings, stepped in religious iconography.

Spent a morning wandering around the Spice Market by Eminonu in Istanbul. It has the feel of a breathing, working market, rather than a tourist attraction.

The internal walls of the Collegiata of San Gimignano in Tuscany are lined floor to ceiling with frescoes. This fragment on the north wall (by Bartolo di Fredi) tells the story of David's dream - I just think the construction of this particular scene is so clever.

It felt wonderful to be back again at the Upper Church in Assisi, surrounded by the fresco cycle of the Life of St Francis by Giotto? The imagery is so cleverly put together. Managed to snatch this photo when there was nobody looking.
